Abstract

This review examines Rashid Khalidi’s historical account of Palestine over the past century, emphasising its focus on settler colonialism and Palestinian resistance. The book is structured around key historical periods, including the Balfour Declaration, the creation of Israel, the Nakba, the 1967 war, the First and Second Intifadas, and recent developments. It highlights Khalidi’s use of personal experience, primary sources, and political analysis to present the Palestinian perspective. The review discusses themes such as displacement, international politics, internal divisions within Palestinian leadership, and the role of external actors, particularly the United States. It also notes Khalidi’s critical evaluation of Palestinian leadership alongside his broader critique of Zionism and colonialism. The review concludes that the book offers a detailed and reflective account of the conflict while proposing the need for mutual recognition as a basis for future resolution.
